چکیده

Inspired both by the Black Arts Movement and the postmodern revolt against it, Parks hasconcentrated on crafting provocative plays that represent and emphasize the concerns andquest/ion of identities for African Americans. In the present essay, I argue that Parks isinterested in questioning the former constructed racial boundaries of blackness andrevolutionary ideologies of the Black Arts Movement without turning a blind eye to the concernsof African American community. I show that Parks attempts to escape the traditions of the BlackArts Movement, which depended on conventions of narrative realism and straightforwardlanguage to transmit its revolutionary messages. My goal is to show how Parks’s plays make useof postmodern aesthetics and paradigms to transform the conventional features of playwriting, create indeterminacies toward dominant systems of oppression and raise the quest/ion ofidentities for African Americans in a post-revolutionary manner.

Combining insights from human geography, critical regionalism, and environmental literarycriticism, I argue that the concept of the translocal, rather than the transnational, is useful todescribe the complex poetics of place in Agha Shahid Ali’s A Nostalgist’s Map of America (1991) and Arthur Sze’s The Ginkgo Light (2009). Engaging with landscapes of the American Southwest and elsewhere...

San Francisco is known for its small acreage and high population density. Due to its attractiveness, the city has been subjected to a housing shortage, skyrocketing real-estate rates, and a steady process of gentrification over the past 20 years in particular. Access to public spaces and deliberation, negotiation, and conflicts over the proper uses and appearance of such spaces is one aspect of...
